Director of Communications

Purpose:  The Director of Communications at Trinity Cathedral will have responsibility for delivery of the Cathedral’s comprehensive communications strategy. Working with the support of other professional staff, the Communications Committee, and the parish’s Vestry (the governing body of the church), the Director of Communications will further Trinity Cathedral’s purpose and vision by promoting its ministries, programs, and events to the parish, the diocese, and the wider community through a variety of communications channels.

Reports to: Canon for Mission and Evangelism

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Manage and prepare all regular parish-wide communications, printed and electronic, including various weekly and monthly e-newsletters
  2. Plan, design, and edit all content for Trinity’s Cathedral Connections magazine and work with Trinity’s Communications committee to create an on-going editorial plan for magazine content and themes
  3. Support church ministries, programs, activities, and events with creation of print and electronic communications including online webforms
  4. Maintain the church’s digital presence – website and social media
  5. Develop and manage a master communications plan for the church
  6. Develop and manage separate communications plans for church events, ministries, and programs
  7. Craft a strategy to increase the church’s visibility within the community
  8. Create print communications materials for internal and external distribution
  9. Manage media relations and serve as the Cathedral spokesperson when appropriate
  10. Serve as the staff liaison to the Vestry Communications Liaison and Communications Committee

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • 3+ years professional communications experience
  • Technology literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop)
