In a year when we all have to adjust and move forward, our Connect Conference is no different. Having to postpone the event was not wanted but necessary. Please join us on January 22 and connect virtually with like-minded professionals in our state. The South Carolina chapters of the Public Relations Society of America and the International Association of Business Communicators are taking the 2020 Connect Conference online.

Yes – another virtual conference but we have an incredible line-up for you.

The half-day conference will be on January 22, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and will feature three unique sessions via Zoom.

Beginning at 9:00 a.m. Keynote Session:

Our incredible keynote speaker, Dr. Katrina Hutchins will focus on “Leading with Inclusive Excellence” by exploring the reality that research has shown that humans have a fundamental need to belong, are incredibly sensitive to their social context, and are strongly motivated to remain in good standing with their social group and avoid social exclusion.

Building upon the research, this session will explore the ways in which inclusivity does the following:
o   Enhances personal and professional well-being
o   Makes the team stronger and the environment healthier
o   Catalyzes support, inspiration, creativity, productivity, and cohesiveness
o   Establishes a mode of operation that leads to greater positive impact and collective success
o   Promotes organizational equity, equality and justice

At 10:00 a.m. Session Title: Lessons Learned for Life after COVID

Summary: 2020 put all communicators in crisis mode with its twists and turns. Organizations – and their communications teams – were stretched like never before. As we look toward life beyond the vaccine, we know that our communication strategies may forever be changed. Three communicators from three highly affected industries around the state talk about how some of the adjustments and plans used during 2020/21 will affect their communication strategies going forward.

* Chris Campbell, Director of Communication & Strategic Planning, Explore Charleston
* Bobby Williams, Owner, Lizard’s Thicket

11:00 a.m. - Session Title: Setting up your Zoom Studio

We have all seen when a Zoom meeting goes wrong or maybe you just need a bit more confidence to turn on your camera. Our Zoom 101 training from Roshanda Pratt is intended to make sure you show up as your best self.

Learn how to boost camera confidence, amplify your message with lighting, audio, backgrounds, and wear the best clothing and makeup for the medium. Although Zoom will be used as an example for demonstration purposes, concepts will apply to other virtual meeting platforms.
