Anna Flasch Wolford and Pam Flasch

From your President-Elect

Pam Flasch

Director of Public Affairs BJWSA | President-Elect SCPRSA

As we dive into FY21 at Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority, I am hyper-focused on our commitment to ethics, diversity, and inclusion – just as we are at SCPRSA. Add to that a constantly-whirring brain attempting to reimagine information delivery during a pandemic!

Over the next 18 months, through my time as your president-elect and then president, I hope we can find answers to questions we ask ourselves every day as public relations professionals, and as citizens, moms, dads and spokespeople for our organizations. Questions that range from the simple “where can I find diverse images online?” to “what can I do to be an inclusive team member?”

When we lived in Europe 20 years ago, we always told our daughter, “You may be the only American someone meets today. Be a well-behaved and considerate American, one who is visiting their country to learn about their culture.” Visiting Paris many years later, Anna was thrilled when a German family thought she was French and asked her for directions!

That’s a very simplified illustration, but it does remind us not only to avoid judging a book by its cover – but also to take that to its essence – don’t judge!

Do you have answers? Do you have questions? I’d love to hear from you! Please feel free to drop me a note at [email protected] or call me at 843-812-4221. We are a team, and everyone brings something to the playing field!

Participating on the SCPRSA Board of Directors is a great way to serve our fellow communicators and industry. You’ll meet and share best practices with many of the state’s outstanding practitioners. Additionally, serving on the board demonstrates your leadership to your peers, clients, and employer.
