October 2020 SCPRSA Newsletter Print

From your President-Elect

Pam Flasch

Director of Public Affairs BJWSA | President-Elect SCPRSA

I was fifty years old before I admitted that, when I told anyone I was from SOUTH CAROLINA, I said it with the same breathless excitement I would tell someone “I’m going to give you ONE MILLION DOLLARS!” This includes the anticipation (on my part) of their reaction as I conveyed this amazing nugget of information!

When I made this observation to my fellow native and cousin Dana, she said, with pride, “Yes, you do!”

Therefore, I got particularly hyper on a recent afternoon, when South Carolina was in the national news for three different reasons! Okay, the first was the disappointing news that Carolina (my alma mater) was one of the nation’s top college COVID-19 hot spots.

The second was the heartwarming story of plans in the City of Anderson to hold a candlelight ceremony in honor of recently-deceased native son and acclaimed actor Chadwick Boseman.

Finally, I heard that Bennettsville’s own, legendary civil rights icon, as well as president and founder of the Children’s Defense Fund, Marian Wright Edelman, is retiring.

Apart from the geographic theme is something almost as dear to my heart – public relations professionals and journalists wrote these stories! That is only one of the hats we wear, but it’s also one of my favorite hats.

Please keep telling your stories!
