A Note from an SCPRSA Board Director
September is Ethics Month
Dear SCPRSA Members,

Ethics Month is coming to a close, but the conversation isn’t.
As PR practitioners, we routinely encounter ethical dilemmas, many of which seem small at face value. They often sound like typical requests: soften this language, omit that detail, make the claim more compelling or move quickly before all the facts are known.
Pair these common dilemmas with the ever-evolving influence of AI and technology on our profession, and you’ll see the challenge we face beyond our day-to-day job demands.
The challenge, however, goes beyond knowing the PRSA Code of Ethics to recognizing the moments when we need to apply it.
Even as issues change, the standards outlined in the Code of Ethics more than 50 years ago remain a vital part of our work. The Code provides a practical framework for navigating new questions, even when it does not address a particular tool or technology by name.
Ethics Month may provide an annual opportunity to revisit the profession’s standards, but the resources provided by PRSA are worth revisiting throughout the year. Check out the on-demand webinars and other resources at prsa.org/professional-
